Barnet peopleMondays at the Shul CafeFor the Cafe ladies, Monday begins the night before when the Lang family collect the shul’s fair share donation of fruit and veg from Waitrose. At 9.30am, the volunteers start to arrive. Tables laid, oven on for potatoes, eggs put on the boil, fresh soup made, tuna mashed, veg prepared for salads. Quiches, crumbles, pud- dings, cakes, biscuits in the oven. The wonderful smell of jam/ marmalade cooking on the hob. A cup of tea at 11.30 and then customers begin to arrive for very reasonably priced lunches made to order including a take-away service. Then the mad tidy up prior to Monday Club arrival!Barnet member, Hannah Leader, donated 12 inches of her hair to Zichron Menachem, a charity that supports young people in Israel living with cancer. They collect hair from donors all over the world to make much-needed wigs for children who have lost their hair during treatment, helping them to feel like themselves again.Hannah reports that her hair has suffered no long term consequences and would definitely recommend getting in touch with ZM if you have hair to spareWe are pleased to welcome Karen Wilfin who joined the shul as a new administrator last November. Next time you are in the office, feel free to pop in and introduce yourself. We wish Karen the best of luck in her new role.
